Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 November 2026 (draft)
This Privacy Policy describes the information ProMax Display handles when you buy, activate, use or update the app, how it is used, who it is shared with, and your rights. It applies to the ProMax Display app and to the website at promaxdisplay.pages.dev.
For the purposes of data-protection law, the controller of personal information processed in connection with ProMax Display is ProMax Display. Questions about this policy, including requests to exercise the rights below, can be sent to hello@promaxdisplay.com.
1. Overview
ProMax Display is a Mac app that runs on your Mac. The app does not include analytics, usage tracking, crash reporting, advertising or any third-party telemetry. It only contacts the internet to activate and check your licence and to check for updates, both described below. The website may use one product-analytics service (PostHog), described in section 2.5.
2. Information we handle
2.1 Licence activation
When you activate ProMax Display, the app sends your licence key and the name of your Mac (as set in macOS, for example MacBook Pro) to our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy uses these to keep track of which Macs your licence is active on. Each time the app opens, it asks Lemon Squeezy whether the licence is still valid. When you deactivate a Mac, the app tells Lemon Squeezy so the activation is freed. Lemon Squeezy's reply includes your name, email address and purchase date, which the app shows on its Licence page; they are stored on your Mac only.
Activation data is held by Lemon Squeezy under their privacy practices. We do not receive a copy of your activation history or billing details beyond what Lemon Squeezy shows us in its merchant dashboard.
2.2 Update checks
ProMax Display uses the open-source Sparkle framework to check for updates. The app fetches a small file from promaxdisplay.pages.dev/appcast.xml and, if there's a new version, downloads it from the same site. Our hosting provider may log standard request data (your IP address and browser or app identifier) as part of routine traffic logging. We don't use these logs for analytics, profiling or marketing. You can switch automatic checks off in the app's General settings.
2.3 The rear-view mirror
The rear-view mirror needs macOS's Screen Recording permission so it can show the part of the screen behind the notch. It reads that small area only while the mirror is showing, draws it live on your screen, and nothing else: nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
2.4 Settings and files on your Mac
Your settings (the main switch, excluded apps, mirror, gesture and corner options) and your licence details are stored on your Mac using standard macOS APIs. When you switch on an app's own notch-row setting, ProMax Display changes that one setting in the app's settings file and remembers what was there, so it can put it back. To unlock every app, it installs a helper (allowed by you in Login Items) and a small add-on for the Dock. None of this data leaves your Mac.
2.5 Website
The promaxdisplay.pages.dev website may use PostHog for product analytics. If it does, PostHog records page views and a small number of explicit interactions (for example, clicks on the Buy button), so we can understand how visitors find and use the site. It processes the page you visit, your approximate location derived from your IP address, your browser and operating system, your screen size, and a session identifier that links events within one visit. Your licence key, which appears in the thank-you page's address after a purchase, is removed before anything is sent, so it never reaches PostHog.
Our PostHog project is hosted in the European Union at eu.i.posthog.com and set to keep the session identifier in your browser's memory only, so it is cleared when you close the tab and no analytics cookies are set. PostHog is not used for advertising or to build a marketing profile.
The website uses no other analytics, advertising network or tracker, and doesn't need an account. Our hosting provider may set technical cookies needed for the site to work, for example to block bot traffic.
3. What we don't do
The ProMax Display app does not collect:
- Telemetry or in-app usage data.
- Crash reports.
- Information about which features or settings you use, or which apps you run.
- Anything from your screen. The mirror shows it live and keeps nothing.
- Personal information beyond what is described in section 2.1.
We do not sell, rent or share your data for marketing, and we do not use it to train AI models or for anything unrelated to providing ProMax Display.
4. Third-party services
- Lemon Squeezy processes payments and manages licences. Your name, email, billing details and licence activations are held by Lemon Squeezy. See Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare hosts promaxdisplay.pages.dev and serves the update feed and downloads. Cloudflare may log standard request data. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog, if switched on, provides website analytics as described in section 2.5. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
We use no other third parties: no email-marketing tool, advertising network, cloud sync, session recording or heatmaps.
5. Where your data is stored
- Your Mac: settings, licence details, the helper and the Dock add-on (section 2.4).
- Lemon Squeezy: your purchase record and licence activations. Lemon Squeezy is based in the United States.
- Cloudflare: routine request logs, processed across Cloudflare's global network.
- PostHog: website page views and interactions, if switched on, stored in the European Union.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, transfers of data to Lemon Squeezy and Cloudflare rely on the standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms those providers operate.
6. Legal basis for processing (EEA and UK)
- Performance of a contract. To provide ProMax Display and process your purchase, including licence activation and checks.
- Legitimate interests. To keep the service working, secure and free of fraud, and to understand how the website is used.
- Legal obligations. To keep tax records and respond to lawful requests.
- Consent. For anything you have specifically agreed to.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Have it corrected or deleted.
- Object to or restrict processing.
- Data portability.
- Withdraw consent for processing that relies on it.
- Complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
To exercise any of these, email hello@promaxdisplay.com. We will reply within 30 days. For purchase records held by Lemon Squeezy, you may also need to contact them.
8. Disclosures required by law
We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that it's necessary to comply with the law or a valid legal request, enforce our Terms of Use, prevent fraud or security problems, or protect the rights, property or safety of ProMax Display, our users or the public.
9. Data retention
Licence records stay with Lemon Squeezy for as long as your licence is valid, plus any period tax or accounting law requires. Hosting logs are kept according to Cloudflare's standard practice. Deleting the app leaves its settings, your licence details and an unused copy of the add-on on your Mac. Email us and we'll tell you how to remove them.
10. Children
ProMax Display is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has bought ProMax Display, contact hello@promaxdisplay.com and we will help with a refund and deletion.
11. Security
The app talks to Lemon Squeezy and our update server over HTTPS, and updates are signed so the app only installs genuine ones. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the product or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is material, we'll say so on this page.
13. Contact
For questions about this policy, or to exercise any of the rights above, email hello@promaxdisplay.com.
