ProMax Display doesn't rely on a list. It reads the notch's size and position from your Mac each time it starts and whenever the screen changes, so other resolutions, including More Space, work the same way. The MacBook Pro with PROLED display has a Dynamic Island in place of the notch. Apple hasn't published its panel numbers yet and we haven't tested it, so it isn't in the table below.
How much more screen
In full screen, macOS stops apps below the notch and leaves the strip either side of it black. ProMax Display gives apps that strip back. The 14″ MacBook Pro row is measured on a real Mac. The others are computed from Apple's specs, assuming macOS keeps back the same strip it does on the 14″, and haven't been measured.
| Mac | Panel (Apple's spec) | Full screen today | With ProMax Display | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14″ MacBook Pro Measured | 3024 × 1964 | 3024 × 1898, 14.06″ | 3024 × 1964, 14.2″ | +66 rows, 3.5% taller |
| 16″ MacBook Pro Computed | 3456 × 2234 | 3456 × 2168, 16.06″ | 3456 × 2234, 16.2″ | +66 rows, 3.0% taller |
| 13″ MacBook Air Computed | 2560 × 1664 | 2560 × 1607, 13.49″ | 2560 × 1664, 13.6″ | +57 rows, 3.5% taller |
| 15″ MacBook Air Computed | 2880 × 1864 | 2880 × 1809, 15.18″ | 2880 × 1864, 15.3″ | +55 rows, 3.0% taller |
Pixels are the panel's own. Diagonals for the whole panel are Apple's advertised sizes. Computed rows are worked out from Apple's tech specs and will be replaced with measurements.
The Overview page in ProMax Display shows the numbers for your own Mac.
Other Macs and displays
- Macs without a notch (older MacBooks, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro): full screen already uses the whole display, so ProMax Display has nothing to do.
- External displays have no notch either. With one connected, the rear-view mirror and the menu bar behaviour follow your MacBook's own screen.
- Intel Macs: no Intel MacBook has a notch.
